IT’S HEREEEEE!!!!
Fall has officially begun! The first day of autumn for this year, 2018, was YESTERDAY, August 23rd, and I really couldn’t be happier! Now it all begins, the fall weather (sorta, COME ON TEXAS), the decorating, the fall drinks, preparing for the holiday months, and yes… Going out on all of those fun-filled fall outings!
By this point, you probably already know I love fall. But one of the MAIN reasons why I love the fall season so much is because there are so many fun things you can do once fall time rolls around.
Are some of my recommendations probably cheesy? Yes.
Will you probably leave this post saying to yourself that I live in my own fantasy world of Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girls where pumpkin patches, apple picking, and hay-bale mazes are actually normal outings for people to do in their spare time? Probably so.
But that’s quite alright by me friends, because all of those things are some of the things I love to do most on a crisp, sunny day during the lovely autumn season! So here are a few of my personal favorite recommendations for things to do in fall. ♡
Go Apple Picking
I know we’re starting out strong here. But can you think of anything more fall-like?!? Going out to an apple orchard, getting your own bucket and getting to go around and pick fresh, crisp apples straight from the tree. It sounds like the perfect fall activity to me! Go with your boo or get a group of friends together, and find a place! It’s so much fun to get outside during fall and enjoy the outdoors and the crisp, cool weather with the breezes blowing through the trees and getting to hear the leaves rustle around. I seriously love it, I would practically live outside during the fall if I could! ♡
Pick out a Pumpkin from a Pumpkin Patch
Big pumpkins, little pumpkins, tall pumpkins, squat pumpkins!! I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite things to decorate with in the fall is PUMPKINS! I will put them on my mantel, outside my door, on my balcony, on my entry table… and the thing I love most about them is that you can leave them natural for decorating, or you can spruce them up to go with whatever kind of decor you want! Check out my post from last week on “3 Ways to Make Your Home Feel Like Fall” for some fun ideas on how to use your pumpkins and other fall decor items to spruce up your home for fall!
Getting to go out and go to a pumpkin patch is so fun to me! There are so many aspects to enjoy. You get to look at all the different pumpkin shapes and sizes, so you really get to pick from a huge selection. I even like to take fun pictures going around with all to all of the pumpkins! It’s such a fun place to be and I really love seeing all of the couples, families, and groups of friends going and all getting to pick out pumpkins together. 🙂 This one is also great, because you can really make sure you pick one that is just the perfect size and shape for carving!! (Where are all my fellow Halloween lovers out there, counting the days until we get to dress up and gorge ourselves on candy?!) 😉
Pick Pecans
I remember when I was a little girl, I would go to my grandparent’s house in Louisiana with my dad and brothers around this time of year, and we would all go to my great-grandfather’s pecan orchard to pick pecans. Then we would go back to my grandparent’s house and spend the afternoon on the patio drinking ice-cold sodas and shelling pecans. Afterwards, my granny would go inside and proceed to make every kind of pecan dessert you can think of, while my brothers and I (and my dad too if we’re being honest!) would sneak into the kitchen and take pecans out of the bowl to eat!
I LOVE these memories, so getting the opportunity in the fall time to go out and pick pecans really brings me back and makes the outing that much more enjoyable! Going out to a pecan orchard and picking pecans is so much fun, and once the fall is here, it’s so enjoyable because the weather is cooler and you can really enjoy being outside. So look up the nearest pecan orchard to you, grab your friends, and get to picking!! I would definitely recommend making pecan cookies, pie, and other various desserts afterwards because hand-picked pecans are DELISH. ♡
Go to a Farmer’s Market
I love farmer’s markets! Seeing everyone come together with things that they’ve grown or made, is so interesting to me! I know a lot of towns and cities have farmer’s markets year-round, but there’s something about going in the fall that gives the whole experience a fun, fall-time, “Gilmore Girls” feel! I love walking around when it’s cool and seeing all the things people make and seeing if there are any fall decorations I can buy or fresh fruit and vegetables. The whole experience just makes me happy and it’s something that gets me out and let’s me enjoy the fresh, fall air. I always look up online the closest farmer’s market to me and start out with that one, and depending on the availability, I will try out some other ones on different weekends too! That way, it kind of becomes a fall weekend tradition I can do every week. 🙂
Take a Walk Outside and Enjoy the Leaves
Last, but definitely not least… Yes, this one might sound a little odd I realize, but I have to tell you, this one is honestly my absolute favorite fall thing to do, without a doubt. Just imagine it – fall leaves, blowing down from the trees and landing so carefully on the ground all around you. There is nothing more satisfying than walking around and seeing the leaves leave their branches and gracefully float down from the trees, landing oh-so carefully on the ground.
My DREAM is to go to Boston and New York during the fall. Fall here in Texas is beautiful, don’t get me wrong, but I have dreams and visions of walking in Central Park in the fall when the leaves are falling, and looking out over a sea of orangey-red and brown, all rustling and never ceasing to lay too still. I imagine myself walking down cobbled streets, with branches hanging over head and seeing the ivy-covered homes sitting in calm anticipation to open their doors to the new season as nature sheds its previous troubles and prepares for the cold winter ahead before it starts over and sprouts new beginnings in the spring. To even imagine that takes my breath away! To have the opportunity to take all that in, to open your eyes and fully absorb and appreciate all that the autumn season is and all that it brings, is truly a magical gift.
So with that, I will leave you. Go outside this fall, take a walk and really breath in the fall air as you stop, close your eyes, and think to yourself what a blessing this wonderful season truly is. ♡
