Hi lovelies! I hope everyone is having a great week so far.
Since this will probably be the last blog post I publish before we get into the “Ber Months” for this year, I figured I would write a post sharing some styling tips for how to successfully transition your wardrobe from summer to fall. If you live in TX like me, you probably know that it doesn’t actually start to feel like fall until at least mid-October (if you’re lucky haha). But I also know that I love styling fall outfits and dressing in fall fashion as soon as possible!
So I’m sharing some helpful tips here to start making the transition over from summer to fall, without taking the full plunge and going out in boots, jeans, and 2-3 layers. Also, make sure to check out my Instagram Stories today for a live try-on to see how I transition 4 different outfits from summer to fall!
1. Style with Boots or Booties
Wearing boots or booties automatically transforms an outfit from summer to fall! If it’s still super hot where you are, I would recommend grabbing your booties instead of boots, so your legs won’t get as hot and sweat. Wearing boots/booties with a dress or with shorts (like in this post from a couple years ago!) is a great way to transition your summer shorts and other closet staples to be “fall-ready.”
2. Add a Felt/Wool Hat
Felt and wool are two textures that always remind me of fall. They’re generally thicker, so they automatically make me think of cooler weather. If you’re wearing a sweater with shorts, but you want to make it look a little more “fall fashion” then try adding a hat like this one! It’ll add a fall fashion vibe, but won’t make you sweat (if it’s still hot as heck where you are, like it is here) and it’ll still look good with the shorts. (Check out this post to see how I style a hat with a summer outfit!)
3. Choose Warmer Colors
Just like bright colors normally make you think of spring and summer, colors with warmer tones are more likely to make you think of fall and winter months when the weather is cooler. I particularly like wearing dark greens (like in this post!), burgundy, burnt orange, etc during the fall because those colors are normally known for being “fall colors.” You can choose a burgundy colored sweater and style with shorts or a skirt and flats and it immediately becomes a fall outfit!
4. Accessorize with Golds and Browns
So much of fall decor always has a lot of orange, gold, and brown in it, simply because these colors make you think of fall. It’s not any different when you go to pick your accessories! If you choose jewelry that has gold tones or purses that are brown, rather than cooler colors like silver or gray, it’ll make the outfit you wear with it have more of a fall feel. So if you’re wanting to go for fall vibes, try choosing a gold necklace or maybe a cognac purse as your accessories for the day!
5. Style Sweaters with Shorts or Skirts
I love styling sweaters with shorts and skirts in between summer and fall (like in this post!) because it’s such an easy way to convert an outfit and you get the fall vibes without dying in the heat. You can wear it with boots, flats, converse, etc. This style is super versatile and always makes an outfit feel more like fall. As it starts to get a little cooler, you can also throw on a scarf like in this post and it adds on even more fall vibes!
6. Wear Darker Lip Colors
I normally start transitioning my lipsticks to darker colors around September. This is such an easy way to help an outfit have more “fall vibes.” This lippy from NARS is my all-time favorite fall/winter color. I buy it in the color “Somebody to Love” and it’s the perfect color for fall. I wear it nearly every single day in the fall months and always get so many compliments on it! I even convinced half the ladies at my office to buy it last year just because they saw me wear it everyday and loved it so much haha. I also love this one specifically because you really only have to put it on once in the morning and it stays ALL. DAY. LONG. It will even stay on my lips through lunch and like 3 cups of coffee! It’s definitely worth the money, I wouldn’t recommend it if I didn’t absolutely love it!
7. Take Advantage of Cardigans
Throw a cardigan over a tank top and shorts or jeans to easily transform an outfit from summer to fall! I normally have a cardigan on me at all times since I’m usually cold everywhere we go, but I get hot outside. If this is you too, this is the perfect way to look cute for fall, but not die when you’re outside in the summer heat.
Thanks for reading lovelies and I hope this was helpful!
Until next post, Xx.
