Happy Friday folks! It’s been a little quiet this week on the blog (sorry!) due to having a holiday on Monday. I am a true Taurus, meaning I do well with consistency. When I have a change in the norm from what I usually do with my schedule, it throws me off. So as lovely as the holiday was on Monday and as much as I enjoyed having the day off to spend with Jordan and keep loved ones in mind on Memorial Day, it definitely threw my week for a loop. Basically, I’ve been playing catch-up all week!
I did want to hop on though and tell all of you about our weekend that we had and what we did. We took a short and sweet day trip over to Galveston, which is only about an hour drive from Houston, and spent the day getting away and enjoying time together. We are both such busy people, always on the go with work, school, life, etc. We both work really hard and are proud of the things we get done, however I think it’s just as important to take time to relax and focus on each other and ourselves. To get away for even a day and not focus on work or school or being on a schedule was just what we needed to rejuvenate ourselves for the next week’s list of to-do’s!
If you aren’t familiar with Galveston, or even if you are and just want a few recommendations of things to do, places to eat, etc, I wanted to let you all know what we did and what a few of our favorite places are there. We like to try to go about once a month (in summer!) to get away and have a relaxing day at the beach. I have such a beach soul, I would spend every waking moment by the ocean if I could, but even getting to go once a month and enjoy the sound of the waves and the smell of the sea makes my heart happy. π
There were only a few places we went this time since it was just a short day trip, but I hope you guys get to check them out and enjoy them as much as we did!
If you’ve been to Galveston before, you’ve probably been to the Strand. The Strand is basically a strip of shops and restaurants in downtown Galveston that is great for giving you that “beachy” vibe. There are a ton of stores with boutique-like items including jewelry andΒ super cute clothing finds, along with a ton of other types of stores that sell touristy, beach things (I’ve been going to Galveston since I was a baby, but I still love walking in these stores and looking at the little gifts and trinkets they sell!)
There are horse-drawn carriages with drivers who are very knowledgeable and give you facts and details about the Strand itself and the buildings along the street. I always loved doing this, my mom was always a big tour person so we would always try to catch a historic tour or a ghost tour (oh yeah, they have those) of downtown while we visited!
This trip was the first time we had been to this little stop. They were advertising tacos and live music, so it’s only natural we would gravitate to here! They have a menu that is SOOO good containing tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. The portions are great and the food tasted incredible! They serve a TON (over 45!) of different local beers that you can choose from on tap and also have a margarita selection that is quite impressive and delicious if I might add. π
We also loved the live music they had and the fact that people could bring their puppers (anywhere that allows dogs, I love because I usually get to pet them). We ate outside since the weather was sunny and breezy and it was an all-around great experience. We will definitely be going back!
This was a place Jordan had been before and wanted to visit again. I am SO glad we did, because this place is RIGHT up my alley! It’s a huge ice cream/coffee shop (with free-to-use indoor restrooms, I might add!) on one side, and a candy store on the other. *drool* They have so many different kinds of candies and sweets, and the theme and style is modeled after the 1920s, so it’s special and does a great job of taking you back through time. It was so much fun to go in there and cool off with an iced coffee and grab some candy to snack on later! I would 100% recommend this place, it was one of my favorite places that day!
The Beach (of course!)
I decided to include this since we DID go there, even though there’s not a website I can link for it that you guys can visit! I love any and all beaches, so the fact that we got to go relax and lay out in the sunshine, talking and reading our books while listening to the sounds of the ocean was all I could have asked for. The beach also wasn’t too crowded at all, which was super nice since it was Memorial Day weekend and we thought it was going to be packed! I linked my beach accessories and swimmy at the end of this post so feel free to scroll down and check out what I wore and brought with me for our beach day! <3
Overall, we had a super fun time in Galveston and the day trip was just the amount of relaxation I think we both needed. I’ve always thought it’s incredibly important to take the time to get away and relax with the ones you love and that’s exactly what we did. We are already looking forward to the next Galveston adventure!!
