Hello happy friends! I hope everyone is having a simply magical week so far! It’s been a splendid week for me, because this week started out yesterday with one of my favorite days of the year… Jordan and my anniversary!!!
This was year two for us, and it was honestly such a special one. This year, we decided that since our actual anniversary fell on a Monday and we both had school and work that we couldn’t miss, we would celebrate our special day this past weekend with a special weekend giveaway. We wanted to go somewhere close enough that we could drive for the weekend and somewhere that would be both relaxing and romantic for us. We gave it some thought and after a while it simply clicked… We are both wine-lovers, so what better than to visit a place that would allow us to spend a relaxing weekend, celebrating each other and kicking back with a glass of wine in hand? So, we packed up the car and headed to the Napa Valley of the south… Fredericksburg, Texas!
A little history for you: I absolutely love Fredericksburg. It holds a special place in my heart, because this is where my mom and step-dad got married a few years ago. Since they are also fellow wine-lovers, they decided to have their wedding at the Messina Hof Winery, and since the winery happens to have cottages available on site, our family was able to stay at the Messina Hof Manor Haus B&B in Fredericksburg, where the wedding itself was being held. Between the wine and the serenity of the location, there was such an element of romance at the property. It truly was the perfect place for such an occasion!
Fast-forward a few years to now, when Jordan and I are trying to find a place for us to stay in Fredericksburg. I remembered the Messina Hof Winery and the Manor Haus B&B where we stayed for my mom’s wedding, and wanted that same kind of romantic feeling and setting for our anniversary weekend. I tried looking around at other places in Fredericksburg and just couldn’t find anywhere close to what the Messina Hof Manor Haus B&B offered. So finally, after much searching and talking it over with Jordan (and showing him the gorgeous pictures of the property and the cottages where guests stay I might add!) we both knew that was where we wanted to stay for our anniversary weekend!
When we drove up to the property, we were awestruck by the serenity of the property and the relaxing feel that the winery gives off. We parked our car and eagerly began to unpack our bags (most of which were mine, I won’t lie). Upon entering the President’s Cottage where we would be staying for the weekend, we were immediately greeted by a welcoming feel. We were left a delicious strawberry cream cheese danish on the living room bistro table for us to enjoy for breakfast, as well as a mini-fridge stocked with milk, juice, water, and… that’s right friends… champagne! (We used this to enjoy mimosas on the patio in the mornings! What better way to start off a day of wine tours than with mimosas, am I right?? 😉
It was so lovely, and the entire cottage was spotless and made absolutely pristine for our stay. We quickly unpacked and decided to walk up the path to the Messina Hof Winery to say hello and grab a glass of wine. When we reached the bar area, we were pleasantly surprised to be handed two complimentary glasses of wine for us to enjoy, simply for staying at the Manor Haus B&B! We went outside to enjoy our glasses under the canopy, since it was a lovely day, and enjoyed talking to each other and sipping our wine. With the sun shining and getting to look at the grapevines and take in the serene setting, it was the absolute perfect start to a trip! I don’t think either of us could have asked for more.
After finishing our wine, we went back to the cottage to shoot a few photos for the blog and plan out the rest of our evening. We ended up deciding to go out for a night on the town at a well-recommended pizzeria on Main Street, followed by drinks and music at a brewery on the way back. Now, I normally don’t opt to stay in the room much when I go on trips since I usually like to be out and about exploring until the last possible second, but it was nice knowing that this weekend, we had the option to come back to a nice, relaxing cottage to spend the evenings after a long day on the town. In fact, every night we were both just about exhausted from a full day of walking around on Main Street, eating delicious meals and sampling different wines, we practically collapsed at the end of each day!
With as much traveling as Jordan and I do to see each other on the weekends (we alternate weekends, staying in Beaumont or Houston every weekend) it was nice to finally take a trip together to a different place for our special weekend. I think it’s important for every couple to take time together, just the two of you, to get away and focus on the things that are important. It’s so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, that sometimes we often forget to slow down and be thankful for what we have. That’s exactly what we wanted this weekend to be about. We wanted to go somewhere romantic and relaxing for our 2-year together since we both work long hours and go to school during the week so that we could focus on us and let the stress of adulthood melt away for a short while. Fredericksburg proved to be the perfect place for this, and the Messina Hof Manor Haus B&B helped to make it an experience we will always have to cherish and remember. Xx.
