Happy Tuesday, friends! I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend and is ready to take on the week!
Today, I thought I would share something I had done recently that a lot of people were requesting I write a blog post over and share what I thought of the experience. It’s been exactly three weeks now since I got my eyebrows microbladed with Alex Hein. I figured since I am now halfway through until my 6-week follow-up appointment, I would share a little about what exactly microblading is and why I decided to get it done.
So we’ll start out by answering just a few basic questions about microblading and my choice to get it done:
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent makeup procedure for your eyebrows where the technician uses a tool to insert pigment into your skin using tiny, hair-like strokes.
Why I Wanted to Get it Done
I have always been a little unhappy with my eyebrows (the shape, the color, etc). They were extremely thin at the ends and [probably due to my sub-par plucking skills] were uneven and patchy in a lot of areas. I always filled them in with eyebrow powder or eyebrow “mascara,” but I was never really happy with the way they looked. To me, they always looked fake and just extremely unnatural. I had been thinking about getting my eyebrows microbladed for almost 6 months before I made the decision and decided to book the appointment with Alex Hein, which brings me to my next question…
Who I Went To
Let me begin by saying I did A LOT of research before I made the decision to get my eyebrows microbladed and then did even MORE research to determine who I wanted to go to for the process. I initially learned about Alex Hein through a couple other bloggers I follow who also got their eyebrows microbladed by her and they turned out perfectly. I had some specific boxes that needed to be checked off in order to find the perfect person to microblade my eyebrows.
My top priorities were:
A) Lots of experience and work to show (I creeped on Alex’s Business Instagram for months before I decided to move forward with the decision!)
B) Operated out of a clean facility in a reputable area since I was going to be going alone and wanted to be sure it was in a good and safe place. Cleanliness is such an important part for me considering the the procedure and how it is done. It’s important to research the technician and make sure they have good reviews, specifically relating to cleanliness.
C) Had access to the correct color I wanted for my eyebrows and made the right shape I wanted. A lot of the other technicians I researched didn’t have the correct color I was looking for (a light or medium brown color) and also didn’t make the right shape I was wanting. The main thing I was wanting out of microblading was to still have natural looking eyebrows. I didn’t want them to look fake or like I got them tattoo’d on, which was why I took my research so seriously. Alex was able to check off all of these points for me! She was a pleasure to sit with during the procedure and told me absolutely everything I needed to know for post-care as well.
Did it Hurt?
I can honestly say that it did not hurt at all. Alex started out by drawing the outline of where the “new eyebrows” would be. After she made sure the positioning was okay with me, she put a numbing cream on my eyebrows, covered them with a piece of plastic, and let the cream sit for 30 minutes to ensure I was completely numb before starting the process.

By the time she started the actual microblading part, I didn’t feel any pain at all. The way I would describe the feeling is like someone was scratching an itch on my eyebrow. It didn’t hurt at all! She even numbed it a second time half-way through to ensure both eyebrows stayed completely numb throughout the process.
How Long Did They Take to Heal?
They take about 7-10 days to heal and are the after-care process is extremely simple! I just washed my eyebrows twice each day with baby body wash and applied Aquaphor to my eyebrows after washing (the same after-care as a tattoo, if you’ve ever gotten one!) It was SUPER simple and although it’s natural to experience mild itching and peeling as they heal and scab, I never experienced any of this (that I noticed). It was honestly so simple and an extremely easy healing process. I also made sure not to wear ANY makeup on my eyebrows until 10 days after the procedure.

I am so extremely happy with the results and am looking forward to finally having the eyebrows I’ve been wanting! I will post an update to my Instagram Stories after my 6-week follow-up appointment, so be sure to follow me on Instagram if you are interested in that. If you are looking to have microblading done, I highly recommend Alex Hein if you are in/near the Houston, TX area!

Thanks so much girl! I love them, I was super happy with the whole experience! 🙂
Yes! This was so good! I love microblading and loved getting it done! It honestly feels so nice to always have them done and not have to do much to fix them up when doing makeup!

Super cool! I was lucky enough to be born with Insta-ready eyebrows (and eyelashes) so microblading isn’t for me, but I know several friends who are thinking about it and I’ll link them to this post. Great review of your experience!
Ahhh you lucky duck! I hope it helps them at least! 🙂
They look absolutely spectacular. I’ve been considering this for myself. I know the ends of my eyebrows are real weird, and I honestly hate filling them in every day. I feel like this would ease a lot of trouble from my plate and my morning routine!
That was my thing too! The ends of mine were superrrrr thin and I just could never get them even when I filled them in so I always looked a little weird lol. Super happy with them now!
They look natural and fuller … great end result. Glad you had such a good experience with this service.

That’s great! Your eyebrows look beautiful!! I had a really bad experience the first time I decided to go forward with the microblading, but I ended up fixing it elsewhere. I’m going to share this post with a friend that lives in Houston. Thanks for your honest review.
